A strange and seductive debut performance at Nexus Cabaret

World music lovers will enjoy a night of true gypsy folk at Nexus Cabaret, with the debut appearance from Tzigane, a veritable Nexus "supergroup"!

Tzigane brings together the bittersweet acoustic gypsy-folk music of Eastern Europe and South American in a tight-knit, three-piece ensemble featuring regular Nexus Cabaret stars Al Valodze (Caliente), Matt Gorgula (Monkey Puzzle Tree) and Sen Bednikov (Golonka).

Guitarist al Valodze is well known for his performances with Caliente, a guitar trio renowned for its intricate arrangements of Brazilian choro and samba music, as well as a fusion of original textured jazz improvisation, Argentinean tango, gypsy, African, Cuban and flamenco music.

Percussionist Matt Gorgula performed with Monkey Puzzle Tree at WOMADelaide 2010. The dynamic Adelaide-based ensemble has gained a large following thanks to its strikingly original, romantic and capricious musical soundscapes that feature ethereal melodies and striking rhythms.

Sen Bednikov, the resident piano accordion player with the wild and wonderful Golonka, is known for his unique stage presence and trans-continental musical mash-ups of gypsy, klezmer, tango, samba and ska.
