The 'Guild' was established in 1938 and is a not-for-profit community theatre company. The Theatre Guild is based on the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide and is formally recognised as a University society. It is also a club within the Clubs Association of the Adelaide University Union.
The University part-funds an Administrator for the Theatre Guild, the Vice-Chancellor is its Patron, and the University has other formal links with the Guild's management and operations.
The Theatre Guild normally presents three to four major productions per year in its home base, the University's Little Theatre, along with shorter seasons of experimental work, playreadings, workshops and social events.
Membership of the Theatre Guild is not restricted to members of the University, and in this the Guild provides an interface between the University and General Community.
