Adelaide’s leading youth theatre company. For 29 years Urban Myth has provided young people the opportunity to work with South Australia’s and Australia’s finest theatre professionals. It is a company that encourages interest and participation in the arts, reflects the eclectic and changing face of the Australian community, instills pride and wellbeing and foremost, creates theatre and performance that strives for excellence.
With over 70 productions credited to its history, Urban Myth is a major force on the landscape of Australia’s youth arts sector. Over the years, it has nurtured many young people who have gone on to study theatre and enter the Australian theatre industry and continues to be a safe and inclusive environment for young people from 5 to 26 yrs of age to investigate, debate and create theatre.
Recent productions include: Rhinoceros, Romeo and Juliet in the Park, Curfew as part of the 2008 ASSITEJ Congress and Festival, Orwell's 1984, Caroline Reid’s dark comedy Prayer to an Iron God, Sean Riley’s My Sister Violet at the Adelaide Festival Centre and Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Park, both winning ‘Best Youth Production’ through the Adelaide press, the ’07 Adelaide Fringe production ‘1984’, winning a special commendation for one of our young emerging directors and Out of the Boot #’s 1,2&3 winning the SA State Theatre’s Young Guns Playwrights Award two years running.
